A new discovery, Black Rock Harbor Light in Bridgeport Connecticut
Now that most traces of Fall have all but fallen by the wayside it's time to discover some new and old subjects. We haven't been "blessed" with any snow yet to help hide dead vegetation so seaside subjects and perhaps some isolated structures will be first on the agenda.
Today I decided to visit a location I have always meant to get to. The subject of the day is Fayerweather Island Light, located at the end of Seaside Park in Bridgeport Connecticut. The Lighthouse is currently not an active lighthouse and appears to be going through yet another renovation but I must say despite some junk around the area and a giant Osprey nest on the top of the lighthouse I had a great time shooting this structure. The morning started off cold, rainy and windy. Navigating the sea wall to Fayerweather Island was slow going as the rocks were slippery and the wind was gusting on top of that. Luckily it was not high tide so traversing the breakwater was manageable enough. I will have to come on a day when it is high tide to see if the breakwater is completely submerged so I can determine whether you can get trapped on the island. For anyone who plans on visiting be aware that the sea wall is about a mile long to traverse.
After reaching the island the rain/sleet stopped and the clouds started to break up enough so some color came through. There were many composition opportunities at this location but after a few hours I had to pack it in once the cloud cover went back to solid grey. I will definitely have to return another morning.
